Title: Evaluating the Value of SEO Services for a Local Moving Company
In the ever-evolving landscape of digital marketing, especially for service-oriented businesses like moving companies, having a strong online presence can be the difference between thriving and merely surviving. Over the past few years, I have had the opportunity to work closely with a local moving company, which has provided valuable insights into SEO services and the importance of appropriate pricing structures.
Project Overview: From Basic Website to Comprehensive SEO Strategy
My collaboration with this local moving company began in 2024 when I designed a simple, yet functional, 3-4 page website for $300. The owner, who is also a friend, handled the costs of domain registration and hosting. At this stage, my involvement was limited to website development, with no initial agreement for search engine optimization (SEO) services.
Fast forward to March 2025, when we transitioned to a dedicated SEO partnership for $600 per month. This phase included the creation of a custom-designed website featuring eight unique service pages tailored specifically for the moving industry. I invested significant effort into ensuring the website was visually appealing and professional, resulting in inquiries from other potential clients.
Initially, the moving company had a minimal online presence—mainly organic social media followers—but that was about to change.
Adapting and Overcoming Challenges
As our collaboration progressed, the owner requested several updates to the website, requiring three major restructurings to better showcase services. Despite the additional work this entailed, I did not increase the fees, believing it was essential to foster a smooth working relationship and assist a friend.
In April 2025, however, we encountered a significant setback when the company’s Google Business Profile (GBP) was suspended due to the incorrect business address listing and the presence of a duplicate profile. I dedicated two months of work to resolve this issue, which I completed at no extra charge, while payments were interrupted during this time.
By September 2025, acknowledging the continuing challenges, the company owner proposed a deal that would enable us to continue working together. We agreed to a three-month arrangement for $1,550. Despite ongoing inconsistencies in revenue, I maintained my commitment to the project, investing time and resources to improve his online ranking.
In February 2026, we reset our professional relationship. Since then, the moving company has consistently paid $650 per month. However, complications arose again when the owner did not renew his domain and hosting—an issue I brought to his attention multiple times without resolution. Furthermore, I have redesigned his booking system multiple times at no additional cost, further showcasing my dedication to supporting his business.
Remarkable Results
The investment in SEO has yielded noteworthy outcomes. Within three months of our initial work, the moving company began to rank among the top competitors in a saturated market. Over a six-month period, the organic clicks surged from 243 to 508, demonstrating substantial growth even in times of inconsistent payments. Recent metrics reveal that in the last 28 days, the website garnered 95 organic clicks, 1.9K impressions, a 5% click-through rate (CTR), and 36 calls directly sourced from the GBP. It’s essential to contextualize these numbers: in a small town akin to his service area, 95 organic clicks per month is a commendable achievement.
In comparing the three-month metrics before and after our payment reset, clicks increased from 188 to 320. Encouragingly, I am now developing location pages to further extend his reach into adjacent markets, suggesting that the potential for growth is far from exhausted.
Reflecting on Service Value and Pricing
In retrospect, I recognize that I may have underestimated the value of my services throughout our partnership. While my initial intent was to support a friend, the scope of work undertaken has expanded significantly, and my contributions have directly impacted the company’s success.
Considering the scale of this business, where a single move costs between $400 and $800, I am left contemplating an adjustment in pricing. It’s essential to strike a balance between ensuring fair compensation for the services rendered and maintaining a positive working relationship.
In conclusion, the experience has not only shaped my understanding of pricing strategies in digital marketing but has also highlighted the importance of setting clear expectations from the outset. For fellow professionals and business owners, I recommend regularly assessing your pricing based on the value delivered and the results achieved. As the digital landscape continues to evolve, so too should our strategies and pricing models.
