Title: From Zero to 23,000 Users: Seeking a Co-Founder to Unlock Revenue Potential
The Journey So Far
In an exciting yet challenging endeavor, I developed a Visual Studio Code (VS Code) development tool that has gained significant traction without a formal launch. With minimal marketing efforts, no announcements, and no strategic positioning, I placed the tool on the Marketplace simply to test its functionality. To my surprise, within just three weeks, I recorded over 23,000 downloads and the user base continues to grow rapidly.
The Challenge Ahead
Despite the initial success and a functional product, the venture has yet to generate revenue. The current monetization strategy is disorganized, which has resulted in a lack of profitability. I initially experimented with a $69/month Pro tier and secured two subscribers right away. Unfortunately, I had to discontinue this tier due to a technical issue that prevented the paywall from functioning properly, which meant users could not access the intended features.
I later adjusted the subscription model to $19.99/month, but ongoing issues with payment processing, as indicated by failed conversion attempts from my Stripe webhooks, have hindered revenue realization. At this stage, I recognize that I have more than enough ideas; what I truly need is effective execution.
What I Am Looking For
I am in search of a Co-Founder or a Performance-Based Operator to take charge of the business and growth side of the project. This individual should possess a willingness to dive into the codebase when necessary, as I am seeking a collaborative partnership rather than continuing as a solo developer.
Ideal candidates should have experience in scaling development tools or Software as a Service (SaaS) products. A solid understanding of critical areas such as activation, retention, and conversion is essential. Additionally, while I will be responsible for the core tool’s development, I need a partner who can help implement new features and resolve backend issues (like payments and onboarding) as well as enhance the user experience (UI/UX).
An understanding of how to effectively position development tools in the market is also crucial. You should be proficient in communicating with developers in a relatable manner, steering clear of traditional marketing jargon.
The Proposal
Currently, I am unable to offer an upfront payment. Therefore, this partnership would be based on revenue sharing or equity, allowing for mutual growth and reward. You would be joining a venture with validated user demand and a growing active user base, setting the stage for future profitability.
If you have experience revamping a stagnant conversion funnel and are eager to transform a proven product into a successful business model—let’s connect. My direct messages are open for discussions.

One Comment
This is a compelling case of product-market fit manifesting through virality and user engagement, even before effective monetization strategies are in place. It highlights a critical insight: building a valuable tool is only part of the equation; translating that into sustainable revenue necessitates a focus on activation funnels, payment infrastructure, and user retention.
Your situation underscores the importance of seamless payment processing—especially handling webhook failures and technical hiccups that can erode user trust and funnel efficiency. Leveraging robust, scalable payment solutions like Stripe’s newer features or alternative gateways, combined with thorough testing, can mitigate such issues.
Moreover, positioning in the developer space requires authentic communication—emphasizing the problem your tool solves rather than just feature lists. A/B testing different messaging angles and understanding user behavior at each onboarding stage can support high conversion rates.
Given the growth you’ve experienced organically, aligning with a co-founder who understands both technical and market nuances can exponentially accelerate your path to profitability—especially when focusing on optimizing activation, reducing churn, and establishing recurring revenue streams. Best of luck in finding the right partner to turn this promising engine into a sustainable vehicle.
