I gave up trying to make money and instead just tried to solve problems

Title: Shifting the Focus: Creating Solutions Instead of Chasing Profits

In the ever-evolving landscape of entrepreneurship and tech innovation, it’s common to see countless projects driven by the singular goal of making money. While generating revenue is certainly a critical aspect of any business, my personal journey has led me to a different conclusion: the pursuit of profit can often detract from the intrinsic value of solving real problems.

In 2026, I made a conscious decision to dedicate my efforts to developing solutions that prioritize utility and accessibility over financial gain. This shift has not only been liberating but has also allowed me to create tools that help others bootstrap their projects with ease, without requiring any financial investment.

Over the past ten years, I’ve navigated through six different money-making ideas and generated approximately $1.5 million in revenue. While this may seem significant, it is essential to understand that in the grand scheme of entrepreneurial pursuits, this figure represents a modest return, especially considering the nearly 600 ideas I’ve brainstormed during that time. Many of those concepts were successfully executed by other entrepreneurs and companies, which has often left me reflecting on missed opportunities due to time constraints, costs, and maintenance challenges.

Here are three core reasons why many entrepreneurial ventures struggle to achieve sustainable profitability:

  1. Timeliness in Development: The inability to bring an idea to fruition quickly often hampers growth potential.

  2. Financial Sustainability: Many startups lack the financial flexibility to support ongoing growth and operational costs, resulting in insufficient resources to continue.

  3. Maintenance Bottlenecks: After successfully launching a product, the subsequent need for maintenance can place an immense burden on both funds and manpower, stifling further development.

Recognizing these challenges, I set out to develop a comprehensive solution to reduce the barriers faced by budding entrepreneurs. My objective was to create a framework for swiftly bootstrapping a fully functional application stack—one that includes a web app, an API, authentication, database management, and role-based access control—without requiring a continuous cycle of setup and teardown.

To that end, I am proud to introduce an open-source tool designed to jumpstart your development and, soon, your deployment processes. Drawing from my experiences with companies like AWS, IBM, and NASA, this offering includes:

  • Passwordless Authentication Server: An open-source solution that offers self-hosted authentication capabilities akin to services like Auth0 or Firebase.
  • Pre-built Application Templates: Both web and API starter templates that are containerized and ready for deployment.
  • Database Model Schemas: A foundational schema along with a pre-baked migration strategy to simplify database management.
  • SDK Integration Suite: A variety of software development kits designed for seamless integration with different frameworks.
  • Strong Typing Solutions: A collection of types to ensure consistency and reliability in your development process.
  • Extendable Admin Portal: A comprehensive management interface for user auditing and authentication, also containerized for easy deployment.

All of this can be set up with a single command from an open-source CLI. Importantly, there are no subscription costs, no paid services required, and no financial barriers to entry.

While the open-source authentication server is still in its infancy (having been under development for 18 months), I urge caution before adopting it in production environments. Ongoing testing and auditing are underway, with the aim of ensuring robust performance and security by August 2026. In the meantime, this loosely coupled architecture allows for integration with alternative authentication solutions prior to final deployment.

I invite you to explore this open-source project and consider using it as a foundation for your next innovative endeavor. Your feedback, feature requests, or even simple gestures of support—like starring the GitHub repositories—are invaluable as we develop this initiative further.

Let’s come together to foster a community focused on solving real-world problems with meaningful solutions, and I look forward to any questions or comments you might have!

  • This is a compelling shift in perspective that highlights the importance of mission-driven innovation over profit maximization. By focusing on creating accessible, scalable tools to lower entry barriers for entrepreneurs and developers, you’re fostering a more inclusive ecosystem of problem solvers. Your approach resonates with the principles of open-source development—collaborative, community-focused, and ethically aligned toward utility rather than revenue.

It’s interesting to see how this mindset can address some of the classic startup challenges you’ve outlined, specifically around timeliness, sustainability, and maintenance. By providing pre-built, deployable frameworks, you’re effectively enabling rapid prototyping and reducing the technical debt that often hampers growth.

This approach also echoes the broader movement towards sustainable technology and responsible innovation, where the goal is to empower others rather than just commercialize ideas. As the tech landscape continues to evolve, initiatives like yours could serve as catalysts for more resilient, problem-solving communities—especially when coupled with thorough testing and security measures.

Looking forward to seeing how this project develops and how it might inspire others to prioritize problem-solving in their ventures. Thank you for sharing this thoughtful and impactful approach!
