However, upon deeper examination, I noticed that their website was quite vague — it simply stated they were a café, listed some menu items, and included a contact page, but lacked specificity about what potential customers are actually searching for.

This realization underscored a critical point: if your website does not reflect common local search queries, then your GBP essentially carries the entire visibility weight. For example, searches like:

  • “café in Quebec”
  • “brunch café in Quebec”
  • “coffee and pastries in Quebec”
  • “quiet café to work in Quebec”
  • “breakfast spot in Quebec”

are typical user queries that potential customers are making, but the café’s website was not optimized to address these specific intents.

To maximize local visibility, small businesses should ensure their websites clearly communicate:

  • The specific products or services they offer
  • Unique selling points or what differentiates them
  • The target customer demographic
  • Up-to-date business hours and essential details
  • Content that aligns with local search intent

While the website doesn’t need to be extensive, it should serve as a relevant, targeted complement to the GBP — reinforcing the business’s relevance to local search queries.

This experience shifted my perspective: I now see the partnership between the Google Business Profile and the website as a cohesive strategy. The GBP attracts initial attention, but the website confirms relevance and encourages engagement through targeted content.
