Title: Embrace Networking: A Founder’s Plan for 2026
As entrepreneurs, it’s easy to fall into the trap of believing that long hours spent at our desks will directly translate to business growth. I experienced this firsthand over the past year, only to realize by December that I had become isolated, missing out on valuable connections that can truly propel a business forward. With 2026 upon us, I am determined to change my approach and prioritize networking.
Networking has always been a daunting prospect for me, but I recognize its importance in fostering relationships and unlocking opportunities. To break free from my comfort zone, I have already scheduled two promising events that could provide significant avenues for connection.
The first is the Web Summit in Vancouver this May, an expansive gathering known for its influence in the tech industry. This event promises to be a fantastic opportunity to engage with fellow tech enthusiasts and business leaders.
I’ll also be attending StrikeUP, an online conference happening in March specifically designed for women entrepreneurs. The best part? It’s free. StrikeUP features a platform that matches attendees, making it easier to connect with like-minded individuals rather than wandering aimlessly through a virtual event.
To alleviate any anxiety about networking, I’ve started looking for strategies to navigate these events with confidence. One particularly helpful resource is a guide by ReInvestWealth titled “Top Women in Business Conferences & Networking Events 2026.” This guide offers practical advice on preparation and maximizing the event experience, ensuring you’re not left standing alone in a crowded room.
As I embark on this networking journey, I invite others who may be feeling similarly confined by the walls of their office to join me. Where do you plan to go this year to expand your network? I would love to hear your suggestions and any tips you have for overcoming the social challenges that can accompany these events. Together, let’s make this year a transformative one for our businesses and our connections.

Thank you for sharing your honest reflections and your proactive approach toward networking in 2026. It’s inspiring to see how you’re intentionally shifting from the “laptop-only” mindset to prioritize meaningful connections. Attending events like Web Summit and StrikeUP are fantastic steps—both offering valuable opportunities to learn from peers and industry leaders.
A few tips I’d add for maximizing your networking efforts: prepare specific goals or questions beforehand to make conversations more targeted and memorable; remember that authentic relationships often develop over multiple interactions, so keep in touch after events with personalized follow-ups; and leverage online communities related to your industry—for instance, LinkedIn groups or Slack channels—to continue building your network year-round.
Building strong relationships takes effort, but as you’re already demonstrating, intentionality and open-mindedness can turn networking from a daunting task into a powerful tool for growth. Looking forward to hearing about your progress in 2026!
