Three Years After Quitting My White-Collar Job to Build a Small Commercial Cleaning Side Business, We’re Now Billing $138K This Month and Growing $6-8K Monthly—Ask Me Anything

From Corporate Analyst to Entrepreneurial Success: Building a Thriving Commercial Cleaning Business

Three years ago, I made a pivotal decision that transformed my professional life. I left behind a steady white-collar analyst position to dedicate myself fully to a small side businessΓÇöan entrepreneurial venture I started in commercial cleaning. Today, I am proud to share that this side hustle has grown exponentially, with projected invoices reaching $138,000 this month and a consistent growth rate of $6,000 to $8,000 per month.

My Journey Begins: From Corporate Boredom to Entrepreneurial Curiosity

After graduating from college in 2014, I secured a corporate analyst role that, while stable, quickly proved monotonous. The daily grind left me unfulfilled, prompting me to explore alternative paths. I frequently browsed online entrepreneurial communities, especially Reddit threads dedicated to business startups, seeking inspiration and guidance on what ventures could be pursued alongside my day job.

In 2016, I found a promising opportunity: purchasing three small commercial cleaning contracts from an existing provider. The operations were scheduled at night, ensuring they wouldn’t interfere with my daytime job. At that point, these contracts generated around $7,000 per month collectively.

Early Years: Experimentation and Slow Growth

From 2016 to 2019, I approached the business cautiously, dedicating limited time and resources while experimenting with various marketing strategiesΓÇömost of which were unsuccessful and costly. Through persistence and trial and error, I managed to gradually grow the client base, increasing monthly revenue by approximately $2,000, reaching $9,000.

In 2019, I decided to leave my corporate role with plans to find another job. However, I instead chose to dedicate six months solely to expanding my cleaning business, aiming to test its potential without the distractions of corporate responsibilities.

Scaling Up: From Side Hustle to Main Business

Fast forward three years, and my company now offers a comprehensive suite of commercial cleaning services, including recurring cleaning contracts, carpet cleaning, floor stripping and waxing, window cleaning, construction site cleaning, and reselling consumable products. Our client portfolio has expanded to 55 clients across 60 facilities, with monthly invoicing reaching $138,000.

Our growth has been driven by consistent effort and strategic focus. We are currently experiencing a steady increase of $6,000 to $8,000 in recurring revenue each month.
