Starting from Scratch: How I Built a Landscaping Business from Nothing

Leaving the Food Industry Behind

For years, I worked as a chef at a reputable restaurant, earning an average salary as a line cook. While the job was stable, I felt burnt out and uninspired. One day, overwhelmed and unable to continue, I made a impulsive decision: I drove out of the restaurantΓÇÖs lot and didnΓÇÖt look back. It was a reckless move, but my gut told me I needed a change.

In the following days, I took time to reflect and explore new opportunities. I turned to YouTube, researching small businesses and side hustles people launched with minimal capital. A particular category caught my attention: landscapingΓÇöand it clicked.

Starting Small, Thinking Big

With my last three weeks’ paycheck, I invested in basic equipment: a scoop shovel, a trash can, a tarp, and a leaf blower. My dad lent me a push mower and some lawn rakes, and I used my 2000 Chevy Astro van for transport. This modest setup became the foundation of my new venture.

Growing the Business

Reinvesting those profits, I purchased a pressure washer and some additional power tools. Recognizing the importance of branding, I hired a freelancer on Fiverr to create logos and business cards for about $80. I decided to split my services into two businesses: one
