The Breakthrough: Launching a Startup from Scratch
In 2017, a friend invited me to help launch their e-commerce venture. Excitement ignitedΓÇöI saw an opportunity to solve problems on my terms. My days stretched to 17 hours, sourcing and delivering products on a bike, engaging directly with customers, vendors, and even strangers on the street.
Our momentum skyrocketed. We applied to Y Combinator, got accepted, and quickly raised $18 million before Demo Day. Within months, we experienced tremendous growthΓÇödoubling revenue month-over-month. Our fundraising efforts continued, bringing in another $40 million, which enabled a relocation to New York City and rapid scaling. At our peak, we employed over 1,800 people and raised a total of $80 million.
The Illusion of Success and Hidden Struggles
As COO, overseeing 17 senior managers and hundreds of employees, I appeared successful from the outside. Yet, internally, I was battling severe anxiety, insomnia, and feelings of inadequacy. Stress took a toll, leading me to seek antidepressants and confront mental health challenges that IΓÇÖd long avoided.
