As someone navigating the transition from employment to entrepreneurship, I’m excited to share an idea that has been close to my heart. After being let go from my job recently, I’ve been invigorated by the thought of turning my long-time hobby of making high-end candles and artisanal soaps into a full-fledged business. Over the years, I’ve delighted friends and family with my creations, and their encouragement to pursue this passion professionally has fueled my motivation.

I’ve conducted some initial research into raw material costs and discovered a number of B2B platforms like Amazon and Alibaba, where I can procure supplies at competitive rates when purchasing in bulk. However, there’s one significant obstacle that looms large: I lack any business management knowledge. While I am aware that there are countless articles and tutorial videos available, I’m eager to hear directly from seasoned small business owners.

In particular, I’m curious about the three most critical aspects I should be prepared for as I embark on this journey. Additionally, I am considering a potential partnership with a friend who has expressed interest in collaborating. While I see the benefits of having someone knowledgeable about marketing to help strategize while I concentrate on product development, I also worry about the potential complications of mixing friendship with business.

On the other hand, my husband is skeptical about my venture, suggesting that it may not be a viable path. Despite his concerns, I feel a strong desire to embrace this opportunity while I’m not tied down by a traditional job.
