At the age of 23, I find myself holding a unique opportunity—10 acres of land, which primarily consists of forest. While the potential of this land is tantalizing, my current situation is more complicated. I’m employed as a veterinary technician, earning around $20 per hour. However, my working hours vary unpredictably, ranging from a low of 18 hours to a high of 43 hours in a week, with an average of about 35 hours. The unpredictability of my job has me contemplating a return to my hometown, a small, unincorporated area neighboring a popular tourist town with a population of around 2,200. This region is primarily composed of small businesses, agricultural opportunities, and jobs in manual labor.
Given my circumstances, I’m at a crossroads. While I realize I may need to secure a traditional 9-5 job to maintain my standard of living, I am hesitant to accept a position that pays less than $18 per hour. The question looms large: How can I achieve financial stability in a location with limited options?
