At just 18 years old, I find myself at a crossroads: the exciting prospect of starting my own barbering business looms before me, yet I’m uncertain if it’s the right time to make that leap.

Having worked diligently in the barber industry for five years, I’ve dedicated 45 hours each week to honing my craft. My journey began at 13 with countless free haircuts, followed by an apprenticeship at 15, where my skills surprised many and allowed me to refine my techniques. By the age of 16, I had earned my barbering license, a significant milestone that set the stage for my career.

Throughout high school, I managed to balance work and studies by opting out of advanced classes, enabling me to complete my coursework during school hours. Now graduated, I have accumulated a wealth of experience—five years in the barber shop and two years’ worth of savings.

With $80,000 set aside and a solid client base, particularly within my local Muslim community, I often find myself fully booked for two weeks in advance. This level of demand reassures me of my marketability and client appeal, yet I still grapple with self-doubt about launching my own shop at such a young age.
