Launching Our Clothing Brand: A Journey of Resilience and Innovation in 2023

The year 2023 marked a pivotal turning point for many professionals navigating the post-pandemic landscape. Amid widespread layoffs in the tech industry, my wife and I found ourselves reevaluating our career paths and aspirations. Both of us had dedicated years to working in User Experience (UX), but the challenges of navigating corporate politics, bureaucracy, and the often elusive meritocracy prompted us to consider alternative ventures.

Following a corporate exit that impacted my wife, she decided to channel her passion for fashion into creating her own clothing brand. This decision was fueled by her long-standing interest in fashion design and her desire for creative independence. Over the course of more than a year, we immersed ourselves in learning about fashion design, experimenting with prototypes, and overcoming obstacles related to sampling, technical packs, and finding reliable manufacturers.

Our search led us to a small manufacturing partner located in Jaipur, where we finally began producing initial samples by July 2023. The results met our expectations and fueled our motivation to move forward. However, around this time, I faced an unexpected career change myself—I was laid off in August 2023. While this was not part of the original plan, it became a catalyst for us to pivot and accelerate our entrepreneurial efforts.

Recognizing the strengths each of us brought to the table, I took on the operational and economic aspects of the business, areas where my wife felt less confident. With prior entrepreneurial experience, I was motivated to help turn our vision into reality. My long-standing interest in startups and business development aligned perfectly with this new venture.

Today, we celebrate the successful launch of our inaugural collection, comprising four carefully curated products with limited initial inventory. Establishing the supply chain involved sourcing high-quality fabrics from mills in Erode and Coimbatore, as well as securing trims from Jaipur’s bustling markets. Navigating these logistics was a significant learning experience, helping us refine our processes and build a foundation for future growth.

Our efforts are now shifting toward marketing strategies, with plans to initiate advertising campaigns on Meta platforms to increase our brand visibility. We are also excited to announce an upcoming collection scheduled for release in July, featuring innovative designs that reflect our brand’s ethos.
