Creating a Unique Glamping Hospitality Venture: A Personal Journey and Future Opportunities

Starting a new business venture can be both exciting and challenging. Recently, I embarked on an ambitious project to create a distinctive glamping hospitality experience, having left a well-paying job that earned me 3 lakhs per month at the age of 27. Over the course of eight months, I dedicated myself to understanding the industry, designing an experiential property from the ground up, acquiring land through a loan, sourcing structural materials from China, and initiating construction.

However, the journey encountered unforeseen hurdles. The project was undertaken in partnership with a friend, and due to the absence of formal agreements, responsibilities and commitments were not adequately managed. This led to disputes over land ownership, halting progress midway and leaving the land in a pending division.

As I look toward the future, I am exploring two potential pathways:

  1. Proceed with a partnership that includes proper documentation to execute the project.
  2. Sell the sourced structural materials and leverage my expertise to support someone interested in starting their own venture.

The additional investment required to develop four operational units is approximately 20-25 lakhs (excluding swimming pools). Each unit has the potential to command a nightly rate of 15,000 to 20,000 INR, given their unique, Instagram-friendly appeal. Currently, I own the complete structural materials for these four units, valued at around 20 lakhs, which I am open to selling or investing in further.

The construction and setup for such units are expected to take no more than three months, primarily involving landscaping and amenity installations, as the core structures are already in place.

Below, I’ve included photos demonstrating the initial concept and construction progress for reference.

  • Thank you for sharing such an inspiring journey and your openness about the challenges faced. Transitioning from a stable career to entrepreneurship requires immense courage, and your focus on creating a unique glamping experience taps into the growing demand for experiential travel and Instagram-worthy accommodations.

From an investment perspective, your existing structural assets and clear value proposition position you well. To mitigate future risks and enhance credibility, I highly recommend formalizing any future partnerships with comprehensive agreements covering land ownership, responsibilities, profit sharing, and dispute resolution. This not only safeguards your interests but also attracts serious investors or partners who value professionalism.

Additionally, exploring collaborations with local eco-tourism boards or platforms like Airbnb Luxe could amplify your reach and credibility. Given your timeline and capital requirements, consider phased development—prioritizing key amenities that drive bookings first. Also, leveraging your existing materials by selling or renting them out could generate initial capital or reduce your costs for the next phase.

Lastly, since you’re open to support, engaging with industry networks or hospitality accelerators can provide mentorship, access to funding, or strategic partnerships. Your vision has significant potential—best of luck turning it into a thriving enterprise!
