Strengthening Indigenous Production: India’s Path Toward Economic Self-Reliance
During the inaugural session of the Uttar Pradesh International Trade Show 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi articulated a clear vision for India’s economic future: boosting indigenous manufacturing across various sectors to foster a self-reliant economy. His remarks underscored the government’s unwavering commitment to supporting domestic industries and creating a conducive environment for manufacturing growth.
A central focus of this vision is the “Make in India” initiative, which aims to develop a robust manufacturing ecosystem that spans from semiconductor chips to large ships—all produced within Indian borders. Modi emphasized the importance of simplifying business processes to facilitate this goal, stating, “We want everything from chip to ship to be manufactured in India.” To this end, efforts are underway to enhance the ease of doing business for entrepreneurs and investors alike.
The government has taken significant steps to streamline regulations and reduce bureaucratic hurdles. Notably, more than 40,000 compliance obligations have been eliminated, and over 1,000 laws decriminalized, to minimize red tape and foster a more business-friendly environment. These reforms are designed to empower domestic businesses and accelerate their growth.
Prime Minister Modi reaffirmed the government’s solidarity with the business community, assuring stakeholders that the nation is committed to standing shoulder-to-shoulder with them in the pursuit of economic self-sufficiency.
