Two years ago, my life took an unexpected turn that led me on a transformative journey from a stable engineering career in Canada to the vibrant world of entrepreneurship in India. It all began when my daughter started experiencing skin reactions to conventional clothing—a reality that compelled me to investigate the materials and chemicals present in everyday kids’ apparel.

What I discovered was alarming: formaldehyde finishes, azo dyes, and heavy metals were commonly found in many garments. While my career as an engineering manager offered a comfortable lifestyle and financial security, I couldn’t ignore the adverse effects that these materials could have on my daughter’s delicate skin. The more I learned, the more determined I became to find a solution that would prioritize safety and sustainability.

Unfortunately, the “organic” options on the market were either prohibitively expensive or lacked genuine certification, often serving as mere marketing tactics rather than true commitments to safety and quality. This realization prompted me to take a leap of faith that many deemed risky—I decided to relocate to India to establish an organic kidswear brand.

I set up my operations in Tirupur, known as the garment manufacturing hub of India. It was here that I aimed to create a line of children’s clothing free from harmful substances and committed to ethical production practices. With a GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) certified facility and a focus on clean cotton, I sought to build a brand that parents could trust.

The journey was far from straightforward. I faced over 100 manufacturing rejections, all while having no prior experience in the garment industry. As an engineer and a concerned parent, I approached this challenge with determination and a willingness to learn. Finally, after 11 months, I found the right partner, and this marked a significant milestone in my entrepreneurial journey.

Now, with a solid supply chain in place and initial manufacturing sorted, I proudly launched my brand in India earlier this year. This process has been an invaluable learning experience—one that has equipped me with knowledge and insights I never anticipated.

As I prepare to bring my brand back to Canada later this year, I feel a strong sense of fulfillment. The journey that began with a desperate need to find safe clothing for my daughter has come full circle, transitioning from the challenges of sourcing ethical materials to sharing this vision with my homeland.

I am not here to make a sales pitch; rather, I aim to connect with others who have ventured into the world of consumer brands—especially in children’s apparel.
