Considering Relocation for Business Growth Due to Limited Support in the UK
Over the past four years, I have consistently explored avenues for business support within the UK, including grants, loans, incubator programs, and various development schemes. Despite multiple outreach efforts—contacts with local councils, regional enterprise agencies such as Business Growth West Midlands, national organizations like Creative UK, Innovate UK, CWX, and business banking institutions such as Barclays, NatWest, and Swoop Funding—there has been little to no substantive support available for my enterprise.
Throughout this period, I have maintained ongoing communications with these entities, hoping for avenues to help my media production and editorial company expand beyond its current limitations. However, consistent experiences have revealed a persistent lack of accessible resources, and no tangible programs have materialized to facilitate growth or provide financial assistance.
This absence of support has directly impacted my business, which currently generates approximately £1,300 in monthly revenue. This figure places significant constraints on scaling efforts and overall development. Consequently, I am now contemplating relocating both myself and my business to Poland—my country of citizenship—to capitalize on more favorable support structures.
Poland offers a compelling startup environment, including accessible grants ranging from £6,000 to £10,000, with flexible usage parameters, as well as straightforward startup loans. On both regional and national levels, there are additional incentive programs, complemented by even more generous EU-funded initiatives. Undoubtedly, relocating poses certain considerations, such as potential loss of eligibility for UK-specific welfare benefits like Universal Credit, which I currently receive. However, with my benefit claim expected to cease by September due to income thresholds, this factor becomes less consequential.
