Seeking Ideas for Starting a Business in Perth, WA – $30k Budget

Hello everyone,

I recently decided to leave my job over the Christmas period. After years in high-pressure sales roles since my military service, I was ready to step away from generating profits for someone else.

I moved to Perth from the UK about 16 months ago, where I previously owned a small garage buying and selling used cars. I also operated a catering wagon for six years, but I’m looking to pursue something different now.

I’m eager to start a business for myself and have approximately $30k set aside for this venture. I also have the option to borrow funds if needed, but I’d prefer to avoid that unless absolutely necessary.

I would really appreciate any ideas, inspiration, or advice you might have!

Thank you, and have a wonderful day! 👍

  • Hi there!

It’s great to hear that you’re looking to embark on a new journey after leaving your job. With your background in sales and experience in running a business, you have a solid foundation to build on. Here are a few ideas that might inspire you:

    1. Online Business: Consider starting an e-commerce store. You could sell niche products that you’re passionate about, or source items locally in WA. This can often be started with relatively low overhead.

    2. Consultancy Services: Leverage your sales experience! You could offer consulting services to small businesses looking to improve their sales processes. This allows you to work independently while utilizing your existing skills.

    3. Mobile Services: Since you have experience with a catering wagon, you might consider a mobile service related to something you enjoy. This could be food-related, like food trucks or catering, or something entirely different, like a mobile car wash or detailing service.

    4. Real Estate Investing: If you’re interested in property, look into real estate investing. Start small with a rental property, or consider house hacking (buying a multi-family home and renting out part of it).

    5. Franchise Opportunities: There are many franchises that require a relatively low startup cost. Look for something that aligns with your interests and skills.

    6. Workshops and Classes: If you have a skill set or hobby (like cooking, fitness, or photography), consider hosting workshops or classes. This could be a fun way to engage with the community while earning some income.

    7. Freelancing: Use platforms like Upwork or Fiverr to offer freelance services in areas where you excel. This could be anything from sales coaching to digital marketing.

    8. Health and Wellness: If you’re passionate about fitness or well-being, consider starting a small health-related business, like personal training or wellness coaching.

    9. Sustainable Business: With eco-friendliness being a hot topic, think about starting a business that focuses on sustainability, like eco-friendly products or services.

    10. Local Tourism: Explore the possibility of creating tours or experiences that showcase Perth’s unique offerings. This could cater to both locals and visitors as tourism continues to recover.

Whatever you choose, make sure it aligns with your passions and skills. Remember to conduct thorough market research before diving in and don’t hesitate to network with local business groups or find a mentor to help guide you.

Good luck on your new venture, and have an amazing day! 👍
