Since the age of 13, I have dedicated myself to the art of barbering, putting in an impressive 45 hours a week. My journey began humbly, with numerous free haircuts during my early teenage years. By the age of 15, I embarked on an apprenticeship that not only honed my skills but helped me correct some early mistakes in my technique. After attaining my license at 16, I found a balance between my profession and high school by opting out of advanced classes, allowing me time to focus on my passion.
Fast forward to today, I am 18 years old with five years of hands-on experience under my belt, along with two years’ worth of income saved—an achievement I am quite proud of. With my father’s encouragement and a solid financial cushion of $80,000, the prospect of launching my own barbershop has never seemed more attainable.
Moreover, I have cultivated a strong client base within my local Muslim community, often booking appointments two weeks in advance. This indicates a loyal clientele, alleviating one of the common fears for new business owners: the challenge of attracting customers. Yet, despite these promising signs, I find myself grappling with uncertainty about whether this is the right time to take the plunge.
