My first decent cold call

My First Successful Cold Call Experience

I recently started cold calling and mentally braced myself for the challenges ahead—especially as a brown guy with a slight accent. On my fourth call, I connected with someone who was genuinely willing to hear me out. This breakthrough happened because I was honest from the outset, letting him know it was a cold call and that he could hang up if he wanted. Instead of seeing me as just another aggressive salesperson, he appreciated my straightforwardness.

We ended up having a productive conversation, and while it didn’t lead to a definitive meeting or sale, he welcomed my follow-up email. I’ll keep you posted on any developments from this interaction, but I wanted to share this for anyone new to cold calling who might be feeling discouraged. The rejections are worth it when just one person answers at the right moment!

From my experience, being non-pushy really paid off. Technically, I didn’t score a meeting, but my goal is to foster meaningful connections rather than just inflate my metrics.

  • Congratulations on your first successful cold call! It’s great to hear that you approached it with honesty and authenticity—it really does make a difference in how people respond. It sounds like that initial connection has the potential to lead to something meaningful, whether it’s a future meeting or a new relationship.

Your experience highlights the importance of being upfront and non-pushy, especially in a space like cold calling where people are often inundated with sales pitches. By being genuine and respectful of their time, you’re more likely to make a positive impression.

It’s also inspiring to see your focus on building relationships rather than just chasing numbers. That mindset can really set you apart and lead to long-term success. Keep pushing forward—every call is a learning opportunity, and it sounds like you’re on the right track! Looking forward to hearing how things progress!
