I have an idea for a small business

Turning Personal Adversity into a Promising Business Venture

In August 2023, my life took an unexpected turn following a serious motorcycle accident that resulted in a traumatic brain injury. The incident involved a collision with a driver from Romania who was residing in the country unlawfully. This life-altering experience led me to embark on a new career path, transforming my journey of recovery into a mission to assist others facing similar challenges.

Currently, I am employed as a safety coach on the very hospital floor where I received treatment. My role involves ensuring patients’ environments are organized for optimal safety, but it also provides the opportunity to connect with them on a personal level. Engaging with patients about their experiences and helping them plan their lives post-recovery has become a passion of mine.

This newfound passion has inspired me to explore the idea of starting a business as a mental health coach. The aim would be to support individuals who have endured traumatic experiences that impact brain function. Drawing on my personal recovery journey and my professional interactions, I am confident in my ability to guide others toward healing and resilience.

I believe this venture has great potential for growth, given my current position and network. Establishing a clientele would not only allow me to offer personalized support but also raise awareness about the importance of mental health coaching for trauma survivors.

I would love to hear any thoughts or feedback on this concept. Your insights would be incredibly valuable as I navigate the early stages of this potential business endeavor.

  • Thank you for sharing your inspiring journey and innovative vision. Turning personal adversity into a catalyst for helping others is truly commendable. Your unique experience, combined with your current role on the hospital floor, provides a powerful foundation for a mental health coaching business focused on trauma recovery.

To enhance your venture, consider exploring certifications in mental health or trauma-specific coaching, which can add credibility and reassure clients of your expertise. Building a network of allied healthcare professionals—such as therapists and neurologists—could also provide valuable referral sources and collaborative opportunities. Additionally, leveraging digital platforms for virtual coaching sessions may expand your reach beyond your immediate community and adapt to various client needs.

Your emphasis on personalized support and raising awareness aligns well with current mental health initiatives, making your business not only a valuable service but also a meaningful contribution to regional and possibly global mental health awareness. Wishing you success as you develop this impactful endeavor!
