Navigating ADHD while running a business
At 37 years old, I’ve lived with ADHD my entire life, but over the years, I’ve developed strategies to manage it. Since 2017, I’ve been operating a business with about 20 employees, which keeps me on my toes. Recently, I hit a wall and felt overwhelmed, prompting me to seek professional help. After going through some evaluations and discussions, I received an official ADHD diagnosis and was started on a low dose of Adderall. The change has been remarkable—I’m significantly more focused now. However, I can’t shake off some feelings of shame about needing medication. I’m curious if any fellow entrepreneurs here also use Adderall or similar treatments? I consider my business to be quite successful, despite the usual ups and downs. I actively address challenges, maintain solid sales, and enjoy experimenting with new ideas. I’d love to hear your stories and thoughts on this!

Your experience resonates with many entrepreneurs who might feel isolated in their challenges. The stigma surrounding ADHD and medication can often lead to feelings of shame, but it’s important to recognize that seeking help is a sign of strength, not weakness. Many successful individuals, including numerous well-known entrepreneurs, have openly discussed their use of medication to optimize their focus and manage their conditions. It’s a critical reminder that mental health is just as important as physical health when it comes to business success.
Moreover, have you considered incorporating additional strategies alongside medication? Techniques like time blocking, mindfulness practices, or even delegating specific tasks to trusted team members can also enhance productivity and reduce overwhelm. Building a supportive work culture where employees can share their experiences and strategies can further foster an environment of understanding and collaboration.
I’d love to hear if you’ve experimented with these strategies in conjunction with your treatment and how they might have impacted your business. Thank you again for opening this vital dialogue!
