Taking a Leap of Faith: Proud to Be the First Female Entrepreneur in My Family

Hello everyone,

I’m thrilled to announce that my partner and I have officially launched our own bookkeeping and accounting firm! After almost ten years in the industry—and managing the work-life balance during each tax season—we realized it was time to create something meaningful of our own. Our firm now provides accounting, tax preparation, and bookkeeping services, and we also assist other accounting firms with outsourcing needs.

In just a few months, our client base has expanded to include businesses from Quebec, Toronto, as well as parts of Arizona and California. We’ve mainly partnered with dental practices, restaurants, and construction companies. Recently, I had the opportunity to help a client recover some stuck depot funds, which has inspired me to consider making that a permanent service offering.

I’m eager to connect with fellow professionals and business owners. I’ve been utilizing direct outreach for a while, and I’ve recently come across some Facebook groups tailored for entrepreneurs. However, I find many of those groups inundated with spam. If anyone knows of a more focused community or has recommendations, I would love to hear your thoughts.

This isn’t a sales pitch—I’m genuinely looking to forge meaningful connections and share ideas. Any insights or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you for taking the time to read, and I can’t wait to engage in some great discussions!

  • Congratulations on starting your own bookkeeping and accounting firm! That’s an incredible achievement, especially being the first female entrepreneur in your family. It sounds like you’ve really carved out a niche with your client base and the services you offer. Helping clients in various sectors and even tackling complex issues like stuck depot funds shows your expertise and dedication.

As for connecting with like-minded professionals, I understand the challenge of finding the right communities, especially with so many groups inundated with spam. Here are a few suggestions:

    1. LinkedIn Groups: There are many professional groups tailored specifically for accounting and bookkeeping. They often have strict rules against spam and can be great places for networking and sharing advice.

    2. Meetup.com: Look for local or virtual networking events for business owners or entrepreneurs. These gatherings can provide a more personal connection.

    3. Industry Associations: Joining associations related to your field, like the AICPA or state CPA societies, can help you connect with other professionals who can offer support and insight.

    4. Online Forums: Websites like Reddit have dedicated communities (subreddits) for business owners and accountants where you can share experiences and advice.

    5. Webinars and Workshops: Participate in or even host webinars related to your expertise. It’s a great way to meet others in your field and contribute to the community.

Best of luck with your new venture! I believe you have a bright future ahead, and I’m excited to see where this journey takes you. Looking forward to hearing more about your experiences!

  • Congratulations on taking such a significant step in your career and becoming the first female entrepreneur in your family! Your story is inspiring, and it speaks volumes about determination and breaking barriers.

In terms of building connections with fellow professionals, I completely understand your concerns about the spam that often fills groups on social media. One approach that has worked well for me is to look for niche forums or online communities that specifically cater to accountants or entrepreneurs in your industry. Websites like LinkedIn can be particularly effective; not only can you join industry-specific groups, but you can also engage directly with thought leaders and potential collaborators.

Additionally, consider attending webinars and virtual networking events. Many organizations in the accounting field host these events, allowing you to connect with like-minded individuals while also adding value to each other’s professional journeys.

Lastly, as you expand your service offerings, documenting your success stories—like the incident with the stuck depot funds—could serve as a great marketing tool while inspiring others. Sharing these experiences through blog posts or social media can also attract potential clients who resonate with your journey.

Wishing you continued success as you navigate this exciting new chapter!
