In the ever-evolving landscape of professional careers, many individuals find themselves fascinated by the prospect of working for large organizations and Fortune 500 companies. However, this allure often raises an eyebrow—especially for those of us who have experienced the murky waters of corporate culture firsthand.

After spending nearly a decade at a small organization comprising around 200 employees, I became accustomed to a relatively straightforward and flat hierarchy. The structure was simple: a CEO, a direct manager, and junior staff. This close-knit environment fostered a sense of collaboration and support, giving me the impression that hard work and teamwork were highly valued.

However, when I made the leap to a corporate giant, my experience took a drastically different turn. The transition was disheartening to say the least. As I navigated through corporate halls, it became painfully clear that the dynamics I had cherished were replaced by a toxic tapestry of office politics. I quickly noticed a culture where gossip, sabotage, and the meticulous game of hierarchy overshadowed genuine cooperation. This environment contradicted everything I believed about workplace values, leading me to the conclusion that a corporate setting might not be the right fit for me.

For nearly ten years, I operated under the conviction that success came from contributing to the team’s success, enhancing our collective performance, and supporting one another in our tasks. However, in this new corporate milieu, my time felt wasted on survival tactics rather than meaningful work.
