The Paradox of Paid Consultations: Why Some Business Owners Choose Not to Implement Advice
As a consultant for small business owners, I often find myself in the unique position of not only offering strategic guidance but also providing a sympathetic ear. During my paid consultations, particularly those focused on Instagram marketing, I’ve encountered a curious trend: many business owners seem to approach these sessions as a therapeutic outlet rather than a strategic opportunity.
When entrepreneurs reach out for help with their social media presence, they typically express a desire for increased engagement, expanded reach, and overall growth. I genuinely enjoy these discussions and appreciate the few individuals who take my insights to heart, making real changes that can transform their businesses. It’s incredibly rewarding to see the tangible results when someone implements my recommendations.
However, there’s a noticeable portion of business owners who, despite our in-depth conversations, fail to take any action following our call. We dive into essential topics such as brand clarity, messaging strategies, content planning, and building a connection with the audience. Yet, post-consultation, it feels as though the advice lands softly without creating any ripple effect.
This raises a pressing question: why invest in professional guidance if the intention isn’t to use it? It’s puzzling to me as a strategist, especially considering that understanding and connecting with one’s customer base is fundamental to business success.
