Husband just started his hardscape business and getting cancellations from many reliable clients

Navigating Uncertainty in a New Hardscaping Business: Seeking Support and Insights

Starting a new venture can be both exciting and intimidating, especially during uncertain times. My husband has recently embarked on his journey to establish a hardscaping business, having honed his skills over the years while balancing a full-time job. Last year, he dabbled in hardscaping on the side and enjoyed a remarkable level of success, which brought us a glimpse of a promising future. However, just as we were ready to take the leap by securing an LLC and obtaining insurance, we encountered an unexpected setback.

In the past few weeks, two of our most dependable clients—individuals with significant resources—have decided to cancel their projects. They expressed concerns about the uncertain economic climate and its potential impact on their future decisions. Additionally, two retired clients have also retracted their offers, choosing to hold back during these tenuous times. Understandably, many are taking a cautious approach, and it’s disheartening to witness firsthand how external factors can influence even the most reliable clientele.

Despite having experienced great success, my husband is feeling apprehensive as these cancellations undermine his confidence, which is already fragile. He possesses remarkable skills and a commitment to excellence from start to finish, so it’s difficult for me to watch him struggle with self-doubt in light of this situation. The business cards and company shirts we recently ordered now feel bittersweet, a reminder of the challenges we face.

We are actively using social media as a tool for promoting his business, hoping to generate interest and attract new clients. However, we recognize that this might be an uphill battle. I wonder if others in the hardscaping or landscaping community are experiencing similar situations with project cancellations and client withdrawals.

If you are in the industry, I would love to hear your thoughts and experiences. How are you navigating these turbulent waters? Any advice or encouragement would be greatly appreciated as we work to overcome this rocky start and build a sustainable business.
