Reviving Our Family Legacy: The Challenge of Keeping a Business Afloat

Managing a family-run business is often filled with pride and dedication, and for my family, our trophy and medal shop embodies those values. Built on years of hard work, this small enterprise has always been my father’s labor of love, providing for us and serving our community. However, the impact of the pandemic has severely affected our income, leaving us with barely enough to stay afloat.

As the designated successor to the shop, I find myself at a crossroad. Although I am currently pursuing my college degree, I lack any substantial experience in running a business. Furthermore, my family’s health challenges add another layer of complexity. My father has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, and my mother is dealing with hypokalemia, meaning they can no longer contribute to the business as they once did.

This situation has prompted me to evaluate whether I should set aside my academic pursuits to focus on the shop. The thought of letting our family business fail is daunting, and I’m acutely aware that every moment I hesitate could lead to irreversible damage. The pressure feels overwhelming, like a ticking time bomb that needs defusing.
