Embarking on a professional journey as a young designer is both exciting and challenging. At the age of 17, I’ve been given an incredible opportunity to help launch a new brand, thanks to a recommendation from my mother’s colleague. My passion for graphic design has evolved over the years from a hobby into a potential career path, and now it is time to set the groundwork for a professional approach.

The Project Scope

The tasks at hand involve comprehensive branding and design work, encompassing:

– Selecting and applying brand colors

Additionally, I’ve been tapped to possibly manage the brand’s social media presence on platforms such as Facebook and Instagram, given my proficiency in running my own social media for a future enterprise.

As this is my inaugural official graphic design project, I seek guidance on how to establish fair pricing. Here are some considerations:

  • Value-Based Pricing: Considering the potential impact my work could have on the brand’s image, I could consider the value it brings rather than just time spent.
  • Market Research: Reviewing industry standards and what experienced designers charge will help set a competitive price.
  • Package Rate: Offering a bundled package rate for the entire project could be more appealing than charging per individual component.

For the social media management role, determining the right pricing model is crucial:
Hourly Rate vs. Per Post: Weighing the benefits of charging an hourly rate against a per-post fee considering the workload and expertise required for each.
Industry Norms for Novices: Understanding what entry-level social media managers earn can serve as a baseline while adjusting it to reflect the non-experienced but eager perspective I bring.
