Advice for a SaaS Founder bootstrapping their company with no revenue

Navigating the Challenges of Bootstrapping a SaaS Company Without Revenue

As a co-founder of a push notification platform, I find myself at a critical juncture. Although our product has been well-received for its functionality and potential benefits, securing clients has proven challenging. The majority of small business owners I engage with consistently raise two main concerns:

  1. Although they like the product, it becomes relevant only if they have substantial website traffic.
  2. They claim affordability issues, despite our entry-level subscription being priced at just $20 per month or $200 annually.

To tackle the first concern, I’ve teamed up with a digital marketing expert to offer a solution: a suite of digital marketing services at a monthly fee of $425. This aims to drive the necessary traffic to their websites, thereby enabling our platform to capture leads and enhance direct communication.

The real dilemma arises during my numerous weekly consultations—15 to 20 calls, yet not a single conversion. The feedback remains consistent: while they see the value, they either cite the traffic prerequisite or affordability as barriers.

If I’m being candid, salesmanship isn’t my forte. Thus, I’m reaching out for guidance on several key areas:

  1. Targeting the Right Businesses: How can I identify and approach businesses that have the financial bandwidth to invest in digital marketing services or whose website traffic justifies the use of our product?

  2. Convincing Value Proposition: From a potential client’s perspective, what value propositions should a digital marketing and push notification service offer to be deemed indispensable?

Time is of the essence, and drawing in revenue is imperative at this stage. I’m determined to explore every avenue before considering stepping back. Your insights and advice would be invaluable as we strive to bridge this gap and sustain our company’s growth.
