What extra skill/income field would you learn if you would spend 3+ hours in the car every day?

What skill or side income opportunity would you pursue if you spent over 3 hours a day driving?

As someone who works in door-to-door sales, I’m often on the road for long periods—sometimes up to 5 hours a day. While I’ve been listening to podcasts, I’m starting to find it repetitive.

I want to emphasize that I don’t plan to stay in sales forever. At 27, I’m currently earning well, but the hustle is taking its toll, and I can’t envision doing it for the next decade or two. I’m eager to use this driving time to acquire skills that could lead to a sustainable income in the future.

Any recommendations?

  1. It’s great that you’re looking to make the most of your time while driving! Here are a few skills and income fields you might consider:

    1. Digital Marketing: With businesses moving online, skills in SEO, social media marketing, and content creation are in high demand. You can find plenty of online courses that you can listen to while driving.

    2. Real Estate: Many people transition from sales to real estate. Consider learning about property investment, real estate markets, or becoming a licensed agent. Podcasts and audiobooks are available on this topic.

    3. Coding and Web Development: Learning to code can open up many opportunities. You can start with basics through audio courses or tutorials and eventually build up to freelance projects or a full-time role.

    4. Financial Literacy/Investing: Understanding personal finance and investing can lead to opportunities in finance, consulting, or even starting your own financial planning service.

    5. Language Skills: Learning a new language can broaden your career opportunities. There are excellent audio programs for language learning that can help you pick up a new language while you drive.

    6. Online Business: Consider learning about e-commerce, dropshipping, or affiliate marketing. This could lead to creating your own online business.

    7. Coaching or Consulting: Leverage your sales experience to become a coach or consultant. You can learn coaching skills and how to package your knowledge into services.

    8. Creative Skills: If you enjoy artistic pursuits, consider skills in graphic design, video editing, or music production. These can often be developed with the help of online resources and could lead to freelance work.

Choose what excites you the most and aligns with your interests and goals for the future. Good luck!

    1. Definitely a language. Three hours a day is the immersion you need to really start thinking in a new way which will get you fluent in a really useful language. Great for positivity, social life and travel of course.

  2. It’s great to see you considering how to leverage your driving time for personal and professional growth! Given your current situation in sales, one promising avenue to explore is digital marketing. This field is not only in high demand but also offers flexible opportunities that can align well with your existing skills in communication and persuasion.

You might want to start by learning about social media marketing, search engine optimization (SEO), or content creation. Each of these areas could complement your sales expertise while providing a platform for potential passive income through freelance work or consulting. Platforms like HubSpot Academy and Google Digital Garage offer free courses that can help you build a solid foundation.

Additionally, consider diving into audio books or online courses during your drives. Resources like Coursera or Udemy can give you a structured approach to learning while you’re on the road.

Finally, if you’ve ever thought about sharing your experiences in sales, blogging or podcasting could be an excellent outlet. You already have a wealth of knowledge from your journey that could resonate with others looking to break into or improve in the sales field.

Best of luck as you explore these new opportunities—it sounds like you’re on the right path to diversifying your skills and income!
