With his hours being cut significantly, he thought I was just trying to avoid giving him a straight answer when I explained that it was due to tariffs. They have affected sales in our industry and driven up our costs—it’s really quite simple.
He asked, rather condescendingly, how extra taxes from Canada and China could slow down consumer sales, insisting it shouldn’t affect packaging. I had previously tried to explain this to him before the tariffs took effect, but it clearly didn’t register. Recently, after I placed some orders at higher prices, I took the time to provide a detailed breakdown of the individual duties on the materials we use.
