Starting a new business comes with a mix of excitement, challenges, and the unending onslaught of attention from all directions. I recently launched my own venture a few weeks back, and while I’m thrilled with the momentum we’ve built and grateful for the business we’ve gained, I find myself struggling to catch my breath amid the constant outreach from individuals and organizations.

Have you ever felt inundated by people reaching out without consideration for your busy schedule? I certainly have! From unsolicited visits offering services I have no need for to proposals suggesting I pay for sponsorships that feel more like a distraction than an opportunity, it seems like there’s no shortage of individuals eager to share their pitches, often without regard for my current priorities.

I understand that everyone is simply trying to grow their own business or make a living, and I respect that hustle. However, as a new business owner, it would be wonderful to have a moment to settle in and establish my own routines before diving headfirst into various partnerships and promotional opportunities.

The overwhelming nature of this outreach sometimes manifests in unexpected ways. For instance, I’ll receive an email from someone, only to have them follow up on another platform moments later, clearly impatient for a response. Recently, I politely declined a proposal through email, but that didn’t deter one persistent individual. He still showed up wanting to have an in-person conversation, even after I had already conveyed my disinterest!

While I appreciate some of the outreach—collaborations with like-minded businesses and inquiries from local newspapers can be beneficial—the unsolicited advice and promotions can wear on me. In fact, the only requests I wholeheartedly welcome are those seeking donations for charitable causes. Supporting the community is something I genuinely enjoy.
